Value Added for Bed & Breakfasts
So you ask what is added value for a Bed and Breakfast? It can be many different things, but one of our clients is the Old Field Inn which is located in Intervale, New Hampshire. They have a unique business and 90% of their guests are traveling as families. They have a new Blog and we are writing their articles for them. In a conversation we had today, I was asking if there was anything in particular that he would like us to do a Blog article about. Rod asked if we could write about the value added that they offer the guests of the Old Field Inn and why they do not offer discounts on their rooms.
I do have to admit that I was not ready for what came next. So I anticipated Rod to say the great rooms, TV’s, DVD’s, DVD library, and a lovely breakfast. That about sums it up for many people that are Innkeepers. However, what he said next really took me by surprise and he has raised the bar for many Innkeepers. In addition, he also offers his guests:
• A heated 85 degree swimming pool open from 7 A.M. until 10 P.M.;
• Gas grills for guests to utilize during their stay;
• Picnic tables to enjoy the wonders from the grill or the picnic basket;
• Fire pit to get the full feel of an evening bond fire;
• Game room which is free for all families to use (he noted that his mother would be upset if he charged children to play games);
• Movie theater and on evenings when there are families, a “G” rated movie begins at 7:30 for the children and this provides the parents with a well needed break;
• Hammocks for relaxing and taking an afternoon nap;
• Screened cabanas around the pool.
I would say that he has his value added covered. What does your Inn offer for value added?

Our Clear Lake Bed & Breakfast in Lakeport, California, is on the other side of the country, but we offer the same extras to our guests except for the pool and cabana – but we are at the water’s edge of the largest natural lake in California. We have a home theater complete with 29 speakers and floor shakers! We just had a 12-year-old boy here this morning who was thrilled to use our Wii on the 14-foot screen! All the rooms have a game box along with additional games in our great room. This weekend is the 30th Annual Clear Lake Splash-In – seaplanes have been buzzing around and landing on the lake in front of our B&B all day. Great fun for the guest to watch along with the pelicans and other many wildlife we enjoy watching.
