Comment on Do Cancellation Policies Hurt Bed and Breakfasts? by janine

We have a cancellation policy as most small places do. You would not believe the amount of last minute reservations we get and/or short notice reservations...less than a week before and sometimes for a week or more's stay. We have a great plush place on the water...all of the amenities are over the top luxury we spent a lot to get that. With 3 suites...if someone books for a month (full service unit with kitchen) then cancels and we have turned away countless guests at the full days rate, while the month long booking was at a substantial discount...we do not refund but offer a 1 years time to rebook and use the full credit. No cancellation fees in addition and no cleaning charges either on our suites We have even gone so far as to offer them to pay only 1/2 up front and the rest UPON arrival which would include last minute cancellation and forfeiture of the 1/2 paid upfront with a full credit for what they have paid for them to rebook within one year. Their response...they want 2 years and 1/2 of the 1/2 back... so you give an inch...and they want a mile. Hence we have now gone back to full payment 30 days prior...it seems when we are more flexible...they want to take more and more...maybe this is just the difference between people. Some people are so nice that we would go to great lengths to help them rebook and go slightly over the years wait -

It's important for companies, (especially hotels) to keep their website updated.

I've found that the gallery section is usually the most clicked on link on a hotel site! That and the tariffs page!

Hope that helps!
